Soc 152 consists of a series of three courses--152A, 152B &152C.
Soc 152A. The Sociology of Human Sexuality
No prerequisites.Soc 152B. Topics in Human SexualitySoc 152A covers a broad range of topics about human sexuality. For years we have allowed the students to tell us which lectures to omit, expand or leave the same length; and this has led to a "student-designed" course that covers the topics that students most want to study. Each quarter we update the course so that students get the latest information.
The course begins with biological topics (anatomy, the sexual response, pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases). Next comes a section on the psychology of sex (including the learning of sexual behavior, male-female differences, and information about sexual therapy and sexual enrichment). Next is a section on birth control and abortion. The course ends with sociological topics (such as changes in values about sex, abortion and other topics; premarital sex, cohabitation, marriage and divorce; and ways to improve the quality of intimate relationships).
Prerequisites: completion of 152A and consent of instructor.
Soc 152B is a seminar for advanced research on and discussion of the sociology of human sexuality. Each student facilitates one class discussion on one of the main topics on sexuality.
Soc 152C. Expanding the SexInfo Web Site
Prerequisites: completion of 152A and 152B, and consent of instructor.
Soc 152C is an advanced course that allows students to work on web projects for transmitting knowledge about sexuality and gender to any citizens of the web who wish to learn more.
